Ben's Lockdown work - Day 2

Check out the handwriting and artwork that Ben did today. Here is the link to the Words Into Pictures videos that Ben used to make his drawings (you can see that he has highlighted the word within the picture). Have you tried any of the Words Into Pictures drawings?

Zane's Lockdown Work - Day 2

Well done, Zane. We loved reading your story and, like you, we think that an earthquake may have caused that crazy road situation that you saw on the learning site. It was a good idea for the family in the story to go home another way. It would have been like driving on a roller coaster otherwise!

Here is the picture that Zane was writing about- Write what you think caused this crazy road in the comment section below!

Day 1 Level 4 Lockdown- NZ!

Mōrena team whakarua!
This morning we held our first google hangout and what a great turnout we had. It was great to see all your faces, animals and play a game. We discussed our online learning for the next three days. Check out this link on our learning site and have a go at our daily challenges!

Expect an email from your homeroom teacher tomorrow morning for the link for your homerooms google hangout at 11am (Thursday 19th and Friday 20th). Can't wait to see you there!

Be sure to make a nice comment on this blog post for a 'thank you' ticket when we return back to school. Perhaps you could share what work you might do today or something you plan on doing over the next three days with your family.

Kia kaha, be kind to one another xx

April Fools Day in Whakarua

After learning about a new species of penguin who can actually fly, the children got some scissors out and helped Mr Smith cut the grass edges as the mower was 'out of service'.

First Step of Whakarua 3's Myth Artwork

We have been retelling some different New Zealand myths at writing time, so we are doing some artwork about the myth Battle of the Mountains. Yesterday we practised drawing one of the mountain characters on a whiteboard, and today we used pencil to draw the outline of our chosen characters. We focused on drawing lightly with pencil and making sure that the features were nice and big.

Here are some photos of the first step. Come back tomorrow to check out the next step of our artwork.

Skip Counting to 1000!

Joel challenged himself to skip count to 1000.

Nice work, Joel!

STEP 1 of our art

We are creating art works inspired by the story Māui and the Sun.

Here is what we did today:

We drew our plans on whiteboards, making sure we used all the space and added detail to tell the story. We then used chalk to sketch our pictures on big pieces of paper. When we were happy with our drawings, we used pencil to outline them.

Tomorrow we are going to paint our suns.
Stay tuned for more pictures of our art lessons.

Response from Jacinda Ardern!!!

Hi all, hope you have had a safe and happy Christmas/New Year. At the end of last year, some children in Miss Goslin's homeroom wrote and sent letters to Jacinda Ardern about Plastic Pollution (see post below). Today I have received some exciting news! See her response below.
