Starry Night Artwork

On Monday we learned about a painting called 'Starry Night' by the famous artist Vincent Van Gogh. We created our own version by following step-by-step instructions. We could use either pastel or coloured pencil for the colours. What do you think of our artwork?

If you go down to the woods today.............

Even though it was cold, the teddy bears had a great day being read to, meeting other teddy bears and having lunch with their owners.

Swimming

This term we have been enjoying using our school pool - especially on these really hot days!
During one of our sessions, we learnt about throwing objects that float into the pool to pull in people who need help.

Author's Visit

Today we were lucky enough to have a visit from an author (Karyn Wilson) and an illustrator (Jessica Waters). They read us their two books which were called Kereru's BBQ and Peka and Koro: Friends of the Forest. We learnt some things about the animals in the stories. We learned:

  • There are two types of bats in New Zealand that are endangered.
  • They live in a roost and 1,000 bats can live in one tree.
  • New Zealand has a giant snail that is carnivorous (it eats worms and other snails).
After they read us the books, they talked us through the writing and illustrating process, and told us that it took 9 months to write each book from first thought to publishing.
